Crashes Keep Crews Busy
January 15.  2 seperate crashes kept crews busy the last few days.  The first was on St Rt 327 North of Wellston, near Twin Bridge Rd.  E1905 & R1908 arrived on scene to find a single vehicle crash with one overturned.  The only occupant was extricated by witnesses and being treated on our arrival.  The 2nd was just before noon today.  E1905 & R1908 responded to the intersection of Broadway & New York Avenue and arrived on scene a minute later to find a 2 car MVC with a large fuel spill.  A van hit another vehicle before going across the intersection and tearing open the gas tank on a stop sign.  Crews contained the spill and emulsified approximately 20 gallons of gasoline before clearing the scene an hour later.

January 23.  At 0053hrs, E1905 & 1906 were alerted for a vehicle fire at the Seton Square Apartment complex in the 500 block of West 1st Street in Wellston. E5 arrived on scene minutes later to find one vehicle, fully involved, with extension to 2 other vehicles and the occupied 3 story apartment complex. The assignment was immediately upgraded bringing the remainder of the street assignment consisting of R1908 & M81.  E5 pulled a 1 3/4" preconnect and had the fire knocked down by 0104hrs. Due to smoke conditions in the building and possible extension, E1906 evacuated the residents on the east side of the building, through a fire door, to the lobby area on each floor.  Overhaul and ventilation lasted until approximately 0140hrs. The residents were then allowed to return to their apartments.  The original vehicle was completely destroyed. The right exposure vehicle received moderate damage. The left exposure vehicle and the building received minor smoke & heat damage.  All units were back in service by 0159hrs.

3 More Helms Added to the Family
January 23.  4 minutes after shift change this morning, the first of three new Helms were brought into the world.  By 0806hrs, the 3rd baby had arrived.  We would like to welcome Dylan Thomas, Allyson Katherine and Sophie Marie Helm to the family.  The babies ranged in weight from 3lbs 14ozs to 4lbs 13ozs.  As of the posting of this story, all three babies had been moved to Children's Hospital in Columbus.  Our thoughts are with mother and children, and we can't wait to show them around "The House."  Oh yeah, congratulations A/C Tom "Grandpa" Helm.
Fully Involved Motor Home on Salem Rd
January 28.  3 minutes after 6am, E1907 was alerted to an unknown fire on Salem Rd in Milton Twp.  They arrived on scene a few minutes later to find a fully involved motor home.  Chief Gill called for Brush 1909 due to access problems and some extension to the woods.  It was unclear if the vehicle was being used as a residence or just parked a mile off the closest paved road for no apparent reason.  Crews had the situation contained quickly and were back in service around 0720hrs.
