March 2. At 1823hrs, the box went out for
an occupied structure fire at 1304 South New York Avenue in the 1st
due. E1905 arrived on scene 2 minutes later to find 1 1/2 story,
wood frame, single family dwelling with heavy smoke showing.
E1905 pulled a 1.75" preconnect and made entry thru side Alpha.
The bulk of the fire was knocked within 5 minutes. E1906 tagged
the hydrant and split crews for the primary search and back-up line.
L1901 put the stick to the roof and ventilated with assistance from
L1406. E2304 & E1203 assisted with salvage & overhaul.
The primary & secondary searches were negative but during
overhaul, crews located a large quantity of chemicals inside the residence.
After some investigation, the Jackson County Emergency Response Team
was activated for decon of the initial crews and removal of the chemicals.
JCERT ended up removing approximately 100 gallons of gasoline from
inside the structure before the end of the night. Several units
ran extra on the call including a fully staffed Engine from McArthur
who filled in at our station during the incident. There were
no injuries reported and units were on scene until 2359hrs.
Thanks to all the crews for a safe & successful outcome.
