Crazy Crash Injures 3
June 22.  The quiet of the radio broke at 1949hrs this evening, when police, fire and ems units were notified of a car into a pole in the 800 block of North Pennsylvania Avenue.  E1905 & R1908, with 10 firefighters, responded with M81.  E5 arrived on scene 3 minutes later to find a car into a pole... then into a yard... then narrowly missing a garage before careening into a boat... then hitting a swimming pool... before coming to rest in a driveway just a few feet from a house.  The Engine's crew quickly secured the vehicle and checked with the owner's of the pool to see if they needed any assistance.  The Rescue started patient care until the arrival of M81.  A 2nd Medic was requested, as there were 3 patients.  All 3 patients were packaged by fire & ems crews in less than 10 minutes and on there way to the hospital, priority 3.

Tragic Day for Ohio's Bravest & Finest
June 22.  As strong storms moved through the State today, our brave brothers and sisters were doing what they love to do.  Both professionally, and personally, on-duty and off.

A Lorain County firefighter died today while rescuing 2 teens who were trapped in raging flood waters.  Al "Buz" Anderson Jr. had to be pulled from the water by his brothers during the rescue.  They immediately started CPR, but their attempts were not successful.  The teens were safely rescued by other personnel on the scene.  Please see FireHouse.com for more information.

9 people, including 5 police officers and a dispatcher, were struck by lightning in Hocking County this afternoon.  They were all participating in the 2006 Ohio Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.  While they were taking a break in a shelter, it was struck by lightning, causing injuries to all 9.  Dispatcher Cathy Hart, Lt Steve Noftz, and Officers Don Combs, Tim Woodyard and Nathan Van Oort, all of the Ohio University Police Department, and Officer Rick Crossen, of the Athens Police Department (all close personal friends and co-workers of mine), along with 3 civilians, were all injured.  Officer Van Oort was injured most seriously.  He is currently in the OSU Medical Center in critical condition.  These officers, along with Ohio State Highway patrolmen, Hocking County sheriff's deputies and Hocking County EMS units, were able to successfully rescucitate Van Oort and a citizen who were both in cardiac arrest immediately following the incident.  They were all rushed to an area hospital before being transferred to OSU.  My thoughts and prayers are with you Nate, and all of the others involved in today's incidents.

RE1906 & R1908 Due on Crash with Door Pop
June 19.  Rescue-Engine 1906 and Rescue 1908 were alerted for a 2 vehicle MVC with entrapment at the intersection of Broadway and Ohio Avenue.  RE1906 arrived on scene 2 minutes later to find a van that had been t-boned by a truck with a child pinned in the van.  The crews worked quickly to secure the vehicles before making a quick door pop.  The patient was removed in less than 5 minutes and transferred to awaiting EMS personnel.  After clearing some debris and standing by for the tow trucks, both crews were in service in less than an hour.
