Wellston Fire Department
July 2006
July 4. Crews handled 3 calls today.
The first was at 1603hrs for an apparent lightning strike at SEOEMS
Station 8. Crews quickly handled that incident. The next
was at 1942hrs. E1905 & E1906 responded to the 100 block
of West Broadway for a natural gas leak, inside a structure, with
a possible fire. E1905 arrived on scene to find a gas stove
on fire at the connection to the wall. E1906 shut off gas to
the structure while E5 checked for extension. Crews remained
on scene for about 30 minutes. Finally, at 2045hrs, E1905 &
R1908 were dispatched to a 1 vehicle MVC on North Pennsylvania Avenue.
E1905 arrived on scene 2 minutes later to find an SUV on it's side,
but everyone was out and uninjured. Both crews assisted with
uprighting the vehicle (pushing it back onto it's wheels), and removing
it from the ditch (driving it out), before returning to service in
20 minutes.

3 patients were removed and packaged within 15 minutes. MedFlight
2 transported 1 patient to a trauma center while the other patients
were both transported by ground Priority 1 to HMC-Jackson. Both
Wellston crews were back in service in about an hour. Most of

July 18. The tones
dropped at 0123hrs this morning for a reported structure fire in the
1400 blk of South Ohio Avenue. Brush 1909, which was staffed at
the fairgrounds for the annual County Fair, arrived on scene 2 minutes
later to find a double wide with fire showing from the rear.
They started knocking the fire on the outside of the house until E1905
arrived. E5 stretched a handline and started fire attack/search
due to the fact that there were sheets hanging out of a bedroom window
on Alpha/Bravo corner. E1906 arrived and completed vertical
ventilation. The fire was knocked and the primary was reported
negatived within 10 minutes. The remainder of the units completed
salvage and overhaul and started the investigation. 1 firefighter
was treated for a minor burn. Another was treated for a sprained
ankle. Both were released on scene. All units were back
in service by 0400hrs.

081, 091, 092, 101 & 051 were sent to 1527 McGiffins Rd, Noah's

injuries. E1905 was first to arrive on scene and A/C Ryan Pelletier
assumed command. Command advised of 25 - 30 patients, with 4 serious.
E1905 evaluated the situation and started triaging patients. E1906,
R1908 & R1407 helped with patient care and safety. All of the
patients were removed from the crash prior to our arrival. Most of
the patients were children from a church group. After all was said

July 20. Around 1400hrs, E1905 & R1908 were alerted
for a motor vehicle collision on St Rt 327 just south of the City.
E1905 arrived on scene 4 minutes later to find a fully loaded (1500
gals) sewage tanker, head-on into a tree, with severe damage and the
driver ejected. The truck was separated into 3 parts (cab/chassis,
engine/tranmission, & sewage tank) and the driver was thrown approximately
35 feet from the crash. He was found laying in a ditch covered
in sewage. The tank was ruptured and it was quickly covering
the roadway. E1905 quickly established command and stretched
a protective handline. Both crews assisted M081 with decontamination
and care of the driver. An additional 2 engines, a rescue and
tanker were called. Command then contacted the Jackson
County EMA and Health Department, as well as a representative from
the driver's company. Once the patient was transported, the
scene was secured until the arrival of several county and state agencies
for the cleanup. Once the truck was uprighted and pulled off
the roadway, all the crews assisted with cleanup via emulsifier and
water. The units remained on scene until almost 2030hrs.
