Barn Fire in 1400's 1st
November 3.  Just before 1730hrs, Jackson was toned out to a possible structure fire on Keystone Furnace Road.  They arrived on scene to find a 35' x 35' barn, fully involved, and immediately requested the balance of the box.  E1905 went 4th due with 5 men.  They arrived on scene a few minutes later to provide water and manpower for overhaul.  Crews had the fire knocked relatively quickly and E5 was back in quarters by 1900hrs.  This was the 1st structure fire in over 2 weeks.  But, with the cold weather upon us, it won't be long until the next one.

Congratulations Councilman (FF) Barry Lambert!!!
November 8.  We would like to take the time to congratulate FF Barry Lambert on his win in the At-Large City Council race.  Barry won his seat, along with 2 other Councilmen, in a four man race.  It will be nice to have some insight from the Fire Department on City Council again.  On a side note, Bloomfield FD's Fire Protection levy passed easily.  Congratulations Barry, Bloomfield, and all the other election winners!!!
Large House Fire in Jackson
November 14.  At 0852hrs, E1905 was alerted for a structure fire on Portsmouth St in Jackson.  E1405 arrived on scene of a large 2 story wood frame residence, fully involved.  Exposure protection and master streams were ordered into operation.  When E1905 arrived on scene, we completed MJ's split lay and our crews provided manpower for supression and overhaul.  L1406 was set-up on Side Delta and E1405's deck gun was in service on the A-B corner.    The fire spread quickly in the balloon frame residence and the roof eventually collapsed into the attic.  After the bulk of the fire was knocked down, crews entered to complete salvage and overhaul operations.  Wellston crews remained on scene until 1522hrs.

Roll-Over North of Wellston
November 18.  At 1339hrs, 1923 A/C Ryan Pelletier located a 1 car rollover on St Rt 327 North of Wellston.  He contacted emergency crews and E1905 & R1908 started that way.  E1905 arrived on scene to find a truck, on it's side, in a creek.  A/C Pelletier was assisting Medic 81's crew with medical care.  E5's crew threw a ground ladder across the creek while R1908's crew assisted with the stokes basket.  The patient was slid across the ladder and transferred to the cot.  She was transported Priority 2 to HMC-Jackson.  E1905 remained on scene for fluid containment.  All crews were in service by 1428hrs.

Smoke Detector Saves Two From House Fire On 8th St
November 23.  Residents heard the smoke detector and woke up coughing this morning.  The 911 call came in at 0341hrs.  E1905, E1906 & R1908 were alerted.  Wellston PD arrived on scene within one minute and advised of a working fire.  E1905 marked on scene at 0345hrs with a 2 story, wood frame, single family dwelling with flames visible from Side Bravo.  E5's crew pulled a 1 3/4" line and went to the door.  E1906 arrived on scene seconds later and assisted E5 with fire attack and a primary search.  E6's driver vented the roof while E5's driver set up a PPV fan.  R1908 & E2304 assisted with salvage & overhaul.  The primary was negative with the exception of a deceased dog found just inside the door.  Due to the quick knock down of the first in companies, the call was held to the units from 19 & 23.  Major damage was contained to the kitchen area with heat and smoke damage throughout.  This was a perfect example why every home should have smoke detectors!  If your residence does not have a smoke detector, give us a call at 740-384-2128 and we'll make arrangements to install one for free!

At 0416hrs, Box 191 was struck for the house south of 302 South Massachusetts Avenue. E1905 arrived on scene 2 minutes later to find a 2 story, wood frame, single family dwelling, with heavy fire showing from sides Alpha, Bravo & Delta on Level 1 & 2. Exposure Alpha was a garage approximately 25 feet away and Exposure Delta was another 2 story house approximately 15 feet away.  1921 Chief Dan Gill assumed command and 2 lines were pulled for fire attack/exposure protection. E1906 responded directly to the scene for the hydrant across the street. When they arrived, it was determined the hydrant was out of service. E2304 tagged the next closest hydrant, approximately 500 feet away, but it was frozen due to the 10 degree temperatures.  Water shuttle operations were started with the 1st alarm companies and command requested the second alarm for additional water. During shuttle operations, E1204 tagged a third hydrant, also approximately 500 feet away, but it was found to be frozen as well. About 4 minutes later, E2304's crew was able to get water from their hydrant and all companies were directed to the scene.  While companies were trying to secure water, E1905 & E1906's crews had the fire knocked down enough to make entry thru Side Charlie. Once water was secured, the fire was completely knocked down and the extensive overhaul operation began. Different crews were on scene throughout the day with the last company leaving the fire scene around 1230hrs.  The residence was a total loss, but firefighters managed to contain the fire with only minor heat damage to the siding on Exposure Delta and no injuries to civilians or firefighters. Coverage was maintained throughout the area by various companies during the incident. Thanks to all companies involved.
