Working Structure in Coalton
August 17.  At 2319hrs, E1905 & R1908 responded with 10 FFs to a structure fire at the intersection of 3rd and O'Neal in Coalton.  Coalton had the bulk of the fire knocked on our arrival.  Our crews helped secure the water supply and assisted with extensive overhaul.  This was the scene of another fire a few months ago.  Wellston crews were on scene for approximately 2 hours before returning to service.  The rest of the alarm consisted of E1203, E1204, E1405, & R1217.

Search & Rescue for FFII Class
August 28.  Well, they knew it was coming.  A complete day of search & rescue operations for the FFII class.  Last Sunday was spent on S&R in the classroom and FF Safety & Survival.  Thursday they got a taste of search & rescue, but it was a nice relaxing 4 hour class.  Today was a little different.  8 hours of intense, hands on, search and rescue in 90+ degree temperatures.  Needless to say, it was an eye opener for some.  All students did an excellent job.  The hands on training will continue with auto extrication next week.  In a few more days, the Vinton-Jackson Firefighter's Association will be hosting a Structural Fire Attack class.  The summer of training just keeps on rolling.  With the rope class and structural collapse class coming up over the next few months, area firefighters are sure to be busy.  Check back for frequent updates.
Semi vs. Jeep With Entrapment
August 16.  At 1358hrs, E1905, R1908, M081 & M092 were alerted for an MVC with entrapment on St Rt 93 North of Wellston.  The text of the call advised the crash was a head-on involving a semi and a Jeep.  E1905 arrived on scene 2 minutes later confirming extensive entrapment of the driver in the Jeep.  E1905 pulled a handline & started assisting with patient care of the Priority 1 patient while R1908 started in on the extrication.  R8's crew performed a roof removal (ripped off the soft-top), driver's side door removal and dash roll (spreaders & rams required) all in less than 15 minutes.  The patient was loaded in the Medic and transported to the MedFlight landing zone, which was set up by Hamden E-H4.  It was determined that the Jeep was struck head-on by the front trailer axle of the semi.  The semi driver signed a refusal.  E1905 remained on scene until 1520hrs to clean up the extensive fluids on the roadway.  Departments on scene were: Wellston & Hamden FDs, Southeast Ohio EMS, MedFlight, Wellston PD, Jackson County SO, Vinton County SO, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

"E1905 On Scene, Fire Through The Roof..."
August 5.  A 1.5 story wood frame single family dwelling with fire through the roof on Side Charlie was what greeted FFs as they marked on scene on Krieble Rd.  The box was filled at 2036hrs, bringing E1905, E1906, E1103, E1204, R1908,  R1117, and M092.  Tanker H2 was special called for water because of lack of hydrants.  E5's crew made an aggressive interior attack and rapid search of the first floor.  Once all the occupants were accounted for, Command, 1922 Tom Helm, ordered everyone out of the structure and exterior operations were started.  There were several small explosions from 3lbs propane cylinders while crews handled this incident.  Not only did FFs have to battle the fire, they also had to combat the 90+ degree temperatures.  All crews on scene helped with attack, salavage, and extensive overhaul.  Our last crews didn't clear the scene until 0030hrs.  Thanks to everyone for a safe incident!

Another 2nd Due With Coalton
August 1.  The first working fire of August didn't take long.  Just over an hour into it, the tones dropped for a structure fire with Coalton in the 1600 block of Diggs Rd.  E1203, E1204, E1905 and TA1411 responded on the alarm.  Units arrived on scene to find an abandoned premanufactured home, fully involved and already collapsing.  Exterior operations were immediately called and crews went to work with extensive overhaul.  An additional crew was held in station for coverage for the 3 departments.  Crews had a large diesel spill around 0300hrs and a propane leak later in the afternoon.  Anywhere from 6-10 FFs were on station all day today washing all the trucks and cleaning out the bay from the County Fair.  Thanks to everyone for all the festivities.
