2nd House Fire of the Day, 1st Due
February 19.  At 1319hrs, while crews were still operating in Coalton, Box 192 was sounded for a house on fire on Mulga Road.  E1907, E1906, R1908, E-H2, E-H4, E101, E-102, E1102, R1117, & Medic 081 responded from throughout the area.  E1907 was on scene in less than 5 minutes and 1923 A/C Ryan Pelletier assumed command on a 1 story ranch dwelling with heavy smoke showing.  E7's crew pulled a line and made a quick knock on the fire.  E6 & R8 completed a search & pulled a back-up line.  E6's driver took a fan to the front door as E-H4's crew opened up.  The fire was contained in about 12 minutes and all searches were negative.  A family dog was lost in the blaze.  Bloomfield & McArthur units helped with salvage, overhaul & RIT.  They were also responsive from the scene, seeing as how all the departments in the area were working fires!!!  Thanks a lot to all the crews who helped out!  Photos courtesy of Hamden FD.

2nd Due Structure in Coalton
February 19.  At 1228hrs, the tones were dropped for a 2nd due box on 3rd St in Coalton.  E1905 & E1906 responded with a total of 7.  When E1204 arrived on scene, heavy fire was showing inside the structure and interior operations were immediately started.  E5's crew assisted E1204 with an initial line.  E6's crew pulled a back-up line and started searches.  All searches were negative and the fire was knocked quickly.  There was some upward extension, and crews worked for a couple hours with extensive salvage & overhaul.  While Wellston's crews were still on scene, the tones dropped for a 1st due box and everyone except 1 FF and the A/C hopped on E6 for the ride across the 1st due for a working house fire.  Liberty E1501 was specialed to the scene for help with clean-up.  The initial box consisted of: E1204, E1203, E1217, E1905, E1906, & E1405, E1501 was the only additional unit requested.

2nd Due House on St Rt 788
February 10. E1905 responded with 3 to a structure fire in Coalton's 1st around 1400hrs today.  E5 arrived on scene at the same time 1200's 1st crew got there.  Crews found a 1 story premanufactured home with 60% involvement.  5's crew helped Coalton with the interior attack and then completed overhaul.  Units were on scene for about 2 hours.  E1905 responded along with E1203, E1204, R1217, & E-H2.  Crews worked in snow and temperatures in the 20's.  Nobody was home at the time of the incident.  Firefighters did save a family pet.  A cat was pulled out of the house in respiratory arrest, but after some oxygen and TLC, it was up running around again (Thanks to the crew of Medic 081).  Nice job to all crews.

MVC in the 1st Due
February 12.  At 0458hrs, E1905, R1908 & Medic 081 responded to a 1 vehicle rollover with possible entrapment.  Crews arrived on scene to find a car 30 feet over an embankment on its top.  Both occupants of the vehicle had already crawled from the wreckage.  Units packaged the patients, then transported them up the embankment via a stokes basket and ladders.  Both patients were transported Priority 2 to HMC-Jackson and crews were back in service in just over an hour.  As crews were waiting on the wrecker, they noticed marks in the trees approximately 10-12 feet in the air.  The car had flown off the road, thru the air striking several trees before flipping over and landing on its top.

3rd House Fire of the Day, 2nd Due
February 19.  At 2153hrs, Box 191 was sent to a structure fire on West 13th Street.  Enroute, County Dispatch advised that this was going to be another fire on St Rt 788, the same house that burnt on February 10.  Seeing as how the same units respond to that area, we all kept responding as usual.  E1905, with 5, was the 1st to arrive on scene.  A/C Tom Helm assumed command on the 1 story single family dwelling with fire showing from Side Alpha.  E5's crew pulled a line and started raking and soaking down the smoky fire.  E1204 arrived on scene within a minute and the balance of the box was returned due to the small size of the fire.  Crews worked for about an hour before going back in service.  This was the 5th call of the day.  Crews ran a CO check around 0800 and a medical call around 1530hrs.  2005 is definitely off to a bang.  11 working fires and 4 extrications so far.  We could be in store for an extremely busy year!

February 24. A/C Tom Helm, A/C Ryan Pelletier, & FF Roman Brandau traveled to Jackson today for the swearing in ceremony for Jackson's new Fire Chief. Doug Reed, a graduate of the FF II class at the Wellston Fire Department, took the oath of office as Fire Chief in the City of Jackson. His family & several members of the media and neighboring fire departments attended the ceremony. Chief Reed thanked everyone for attending and talked about his plans. We look forward to working with you, Chief Reed, and congratulations on your appointment!!!

Several crews have been kept busy so far this morning. Crews started out the morning with a lifting assistance call. E1905 was called to a 2 vehicle MVC on S Pennsylvania Avenue in front of General Mills. There were minor injuries and Chief Dan Gill held the call with just the engine. As E5 was heading to the MVC, E1906 responded to an alarm malfunction at the Seton Square Apartments. Maintainence was taking place on the alarm system and crews cleared quickly. A medical assist then got toned out. After crews returned, E1905 was sent to the scene of a 1 vehicle MVC on Wellston Park Road just off St Rt 349. Crews took care of some fluids and debris on the road before clearing up.
